Region: Clare Valley
Bottle size: 750 mL
Clare Valley Shiraz selected from our own premium vineyard sites has produced a wine with strong regional and varietal definition. This sophisticated yet elegant wine has a vibrant crimson hue with aromas and flavours of blackberry, mulberry and fresh cherries. Further complexity is built through 24 months of American oak maturation. The front and midpalate is full and soft, with flavours of small berry fruit and spice complemented by gently-toasted oak. The wine has great length, finishing with balanced oak and silky, structural tannin.
This graceful Clare Shiraz has power and finesse which makes it both approachable now and worthy of keeping for up to 10 years. We make our wines naturally and therefore this wine may form a harmless crystalline deposit, so we recommend decanting prior to serving.
Components of this blend were separately fermented on skins to dryness before pressing, with only selected softer pressings returned to the wine. The individual batches spent 24 months in a combination of two and three year old American oak barrels. A further time in stainless steel tanks allowed for softening of oak tannin before blending, fining and bottling.
The growing season leading in to the 2020 vintage was warm and dry with little rainfall, yields were low and berries small . As a result , our Shiraz shows a real concentration of vibrant colour, complex flavour and robust tannin structure.
Shiraz makes an excellent accompaniment to grilled steak and other red meat dishes
This cracking red has been sourced from the estate’s own vineyards, with all components fermented individually to dryness. The softer pressings are returned and the wine spends two years in a mix of two and three-year-old American oak, before it is transferred to stainless steel tanks for 9 months. Then blended, fined, filtered and bottled.
Deep red in colour, the nose is most appealing with lifted notes of florals, red fruits, bay leaves, chocolate, coffee grinds, dry herbs and cherries. There is good integration and balance plus excellent length right through to the slightly furry tannins on a soft, pliable palate. For me, 93, but expect that to climb over time. Brilliant value.
The Real Review
Deep red/purple colour, with a fresh bouquet featuring peppermint, bright and intense, berries and coconut too, while the palate is likewise intense and balanced, medium to full-bodied, with some appropriate tannin firmness at the conclusion. It’s well-structured for ageing but also very approachable already. Good value.
The Real Review
It always delivers a generous serve of sweet fruit-and-oak and it does again here. Ripe plum, mint, vanilla and toast flavours sweep into peppercorn and dark chocolate. It’s on the money. It’s a good release.
