Release Date January 2018
Made in small amounts from only the best vintages, Clare Valley winemakers Tim Adams and Brett Schutz have released the 2012 Tim Adams Reserve Cabernet Malbec (RRP $45). In addition, they felt it timely to include another Clare Valley winemakers favourite in the 2015 Tim Adams Semillon (RRP $24).
“One of my personal favourite wine styles is Cabernet blended with Malbec. Established in the Clare Valley back in the 1950’s and 60’s this complementary blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec has for many serious wine lovers (including myself), represented the “Holy Grail” of Clare Valley red wine production.
Cabernet Sauvignon has long been recognised as an excellent variety in our district and in 2012 it was quite exceptional. By co-fermenting small parcels of outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) and Malbec (40%) we have produced a powerful and sophisticated wine. We find that the addition of Malbec adds complexity to the mid palate contributing violet, blackcurrant, added texture and richness, resulting in a rich and elegant full-bodied wine. Twenty-four months in new French oak followed by additional tank and bottle ageing prior to release has melded all wine components to further enhance the prestige of this wine”, Tim said.
The 2015 Tim Adams Semillon from a great vintage, is aromatic with great balance and generous flavour typical of this variety grown in the Clare Valley. Fermentation in new French oak (60%) has added complexity and texture to the grassy and stone fruit characters of the Semillon. “Like many other Clare Valley winemakers, I have a soft spot for Semillon and feel that it is the ‘hidden gem’ from Clare”, winemaker Brett Schutz said.
The 2012 Reserve Cabernet Malbec has an RRP of $45 and is available from the cellar door and selected restaurants and fine wine retailers. The 2015 Tim Adams Semillon (RRP $24) is scheduled for release in February, and will be available from the cellar door and selected fine wine retailers and restaurants.
