Jeremy Oliver scores Tim Adams among Clare's best

In his Australian Wine Annual 2009, Jeremy Oliver has scored our range at an average of 91.7 points, better than any other Clare producer with three of more wines reviewed. He also included our 2007 Riesling and 2008 Pinot Gris among the best wines under $20, with the former also being the highest-pointed riesling under $20.

Writing about Tim Adams Wines generally, Jeremy has this to say:

Tim Adams is one of the finest and most consistent of the Clare Valley's many wineries. The affordable prices and widespread availability of its wines do not give them the caché of scarcity or extreme cost that are often exploited by wineries whose wines are frequently nowhere near as good, but that sort of thing is of little interest to Tim Adams or Pam Goldsack, who are singularly motivated by supplying wine of excellent quality and character to their steadily increasing army of followers.

And with regard to individual wines:

Tim Adams 2008 Pinot Gris

A spicy cinnamon stick-like fragrance of lemon rind, tropical fruit and melon precedes a vibrant, juicy and crystalline palate whose tangy and tightly focused fruit is underpinned by a fine lemon sherbet chalkiness, finishing with a racy, refreshing acidity. 91 points

Tim Adams 2007 Riesling

Mouth-wateringly tangy and refreshing this long, smooth and citrusy riesling reveals a hint of buttered toast and honey beneath its aromas of pear, apple and white flowers. Underpinned by fine, chalky phenolics, its long, lingering palate of crunchy and slightly candied juice and lemon, becoming richer and more generous with time in the glass. 94 points

Tim Adams 2007 Semillon

A smooth, juicy and generous young semillon whose lightly grassy expression of honeydew melon and citrus flavours is neatly, if a little assertively, supported by fresh toasty vanilla oak. It's long and polished, with lively acids and a lingering presence of vibrant fruit and nutty undertones. 92 points

Tim Adams 2005 Shiraz

There's a shade of currant-like flavour about this wine, but it is a finely crafted and effortlessly balanced shiraz of genuine regional character and identity. There's a hint of pepper and a spicy note of cinnamon beneath its vibrant aromas of redcurrants, raspberries and cassis, backed by lightly toasty vanilla oak. Long and lingering, firm and smooth, its palate of pristine blueberry and cassis-like flavour reveals undertones of meaty and slightly menthol/mint influences. Backed by polished oak, it finishes with lingering nuances of licorice and cloves. 93 points

Tim Adams 2006 The Aberfeldy Shiraz

A fine, long, elegant and dusty shiraz whose vibrant presence of dark berries, plums and fresh dark chocolate/vanilla/cedar oak is backed by spicy, lightly peppery and meaty undertones. It's long, smooth, fine-grained and elegant, with a silky backbone of pliant tannins and lingering suggestions of licorice and caramel. Artfully made, it simply lacks the genuine length and depth of fruit for a higher rating. 93 points

Tim Adams 2006 The Fergus

Smooth and savoury, with a dusty, meaty and earthy fragrance of dark plums and blueberries, cloves and cinnamon over suggestions of menthol. Brightly lit and juicy, with a lingering spiciness, its vibrant, supple and red-fruited palate overlies a fine, powdery spine of drying tannins, finishing long and fresh. 93 points
